Empuraan Producer Says Not Isolating Prithviraj, Deleted 2 Minutes of Footage
Producer Addresses Media in Kochi
Empuraan producer Antony Perumbavoor met the media in Kochi on Tuesday. He addressed various concerns surrounding the film and clarified key points regarding the recent edits.
Two Minutes of Footage Removed
Perumbavoor confirmed that nearly two minutes and a few seconds of footage had been removed from the film. The edits followed significant backlash over scenes that seemingly depicted the 2002 Gujarat riots. He emphasized that these edits were made voluntarily and not due to any external pressure. “The edited version with cuts will be screened in theatres from today, April 1,” he stated.
No Rift Between Mohanlal and Prithviraj
Addressing rumors of a possible rift between actor Mohanlal and director Prithviraj Sukumaran, Perumbavoor dismissed such claims. He asserted that the entire team is working together and no one is being isolated. “We all knew about the movie. There is nothing like we are isolating Prithviraj. We are all together in this movie,” he clarified.
Edits Made with Sensitivity
Clarifying the decision to re-edit the film, Perumbavoor explained, “We did not do this under pressure. We are people who would like to make corrections if our cinema hurts even a single common man.”
Response to Major Ravi’s Claims
Days after Empuraan became embroiled in controversy, director Major Ravi defended Mohanlal, claiming that he was unaware of the entire script. Perumbavoor refuted these claims, reiterating that Mohanlal and everyone involved were fully aware of the film’s content before its release.
L3 Confirmed
During the pre-release event of L2: Empuraan, Prithviraj had mentioned that the script for Part 3 was in its early stages. At the Kochi press meet, Perumbavoor reaffirmed that the third installment would definitely be made: “L3, the third part of the film franchise, will definitely be made.”
Box Office Success
Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2: Empuraan features an ensemble cast, including Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh, Tovino Thomas, and Suraj Venjaramoodu. The film has surpassed Rs 200 crore worldwide and continues to perform strongly in theatres.
